Catalogue Deposit
CellBank Australia collects, quality controls, stores, and makes available novel mammalian cell lines that have been developed by the research scientists of Oceania, and are of interest to others.
The essential nature of CellBank Australia and other cell line repositories has been highlighted by Australia-based research scientists who recommended in a Journal of Ovarian Research article that “all cell lines used for research” be deposited in a cell line repository, and that these cell lines be “readily accessible for all researchers.”
Why Deposit in CellBank Australia?
- Depositors can ensure that STR profiles are generated from their cell lines to ensure that they are indeed unique. These profiles are a valuable reference in determining if future passages of that line become cross-contaminated.
- Depositors can refer cell line requests from interested parties to CellBank Australia or its distribution partners. This eliminates the need to culture, freeze and ship cell lines, saving on staff costs and workload. Depositors can also anticipate an increase in scientific citations through the use of their deposited cell lines.
- Recipients of CellBank Australia’s cell lines agree to acknowledge their depositor (or their originator, if not one and the same) in all publications and patent applications that make reference to the material.
- Recipients may receive CellBank Australia’s cell lines directly from CellBank Australia, or from the European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC; United Kingdom) and its channel partners and distributors, Sigma-Aldrich (global distribution) and Dainippon Sumito Pharma (DSP; Japan). Thus, outside of CellBank Australia’s premises in Sydney, CellBank Australia’s cell lines are available from distribution hubs in Germany, Japan, the UK and the USA. According to the Cancer Atlas website, those four countries contributed 70% of the 36,633 cancer research papers that were released worldwide from 2004-2013.
Under the terms of agreements made at the time of purchase, cells cannot be used in humans and may not be accessed for commercial purposes without the consent of the depositor.
Our Catalogue Deposit Service is offered free-of-charge. To deposit, please contact us at cellbank@cmri.org.au and provide us with information related to your cell line(s) using this form.
Cell lines that are suitable for deposit will require a Material Deposit Agreement that sets out the terms on which the cells are sent to us to be signed before cells can be shipped.
